For
this unit we were asked to define and research a historical context and relate
it to the present, therefore in this blog I will be evaluating the references
within the context for my chosen specialisation. The aim is to develop my independent
view of one area that relates to my work through extensive research.
In this
blog I will be recording all the brain storming and idea generation processes
that will lead me to my final essay. I had to start off by producing some kind
of brain storming to actually pick a topic of interest that I will conduct my
research on.
To start
off, I know that I want my essay to be related to interior design since it is
the area I want to specialise in, but it is a really vast subject therefore I need
to narrow it down further. Here are the best fitting ideas to which I managed
to bring my list to after viewing some articles.
My initial
idea was with regards to traditional elements when converting an old house into
a more contemporary space. Or simply
introducing a traditional element in a contemporary space just to keep with in
line with the exterior or location in which the design is situated.
Another
area was to look at small apartments and how they can be used to have all the
necessary furnishings and areas for someone to live in and still have enough
space for the interior to be relaxing enough to live in and to be called a
home.
I
also looked at the fact that since we are getting less nature around us, due to
deforestation to allow room for construction, designers are placing controlled vegetation
into their deigns. This way, high buildings would not be such an eye-sore as
well as trying to compensate for the destruction they caused for the
construction of the building.
So
for now I managed to bring my list down to three main working titles:
- Integrating
traditional elements in home interiors
- Using
a small space in home interiors to its best potential
- The
use of nature in interiors
